First off - thanks everyone for your great comments! Originally I was going to respond to them individually in the comments section, but it was easier just to lump them together and make a new post. So here goes:

High Scores - currently there is an error in the sorting as many have noticed. It sorts them by string value instead of number so 500 > 4000 > 300 > 2000 etc…(kind of like alphabetical order). That’s an easy fix and will be in the next version. As for the actual scoring - I’d love some input on this. I still haven’t settled on exactly the best way to score these. Here’s what I have so far. Ok - so another small project I’ve been working on is making the widget not a widget. In other words, a web browser version that is platform independent - or at least sort of. It’s ugly and it’s definitely a work in progress…but for those pc (and mac pre-10.4) users dying to play sudoku here it is.

As you can see, we’ve relocated. I’ve been wanting to move my blog to the domain that I’ve been paying for, but I didn’t have any time. The last couple of days work has been real slow so bam! here it is. Mostly I’m excited about having categories so that I can blog not just about Sudoku (don’t worry I will continue to!) but also whatever else strikes me. Let me know what you think of the new look!

I’ve just recently switched over to dreamhost hosting and I have to say that I’m pretty impressed. I was using a dedicated server before and it was costing me almost 10x as much without the coupon and 50x more with the coupon. So, since you are a fellow sudoku-er I am going to pass the savings on to you. Go to Dreamhost and enter the coupon BDEBOER. For one year of web hosting with 20GB of space and 1TB bandwidth you can pay less than $23 (my coupon will save you $97). Plus you can host an unlimited number of domains and subdomains on your server. There’s MySQL, webDAV, and all sorts of goodies too. It’s as good as having the dedicated server without the hassle of it getting hacked and having to deal with it once a month. Now someone else manages those problems for me and it costs less! Couldn’t recommend it more.

I’ve been working on Sudoku 2.0 as promised and I’m just testing it now to make sure all works as hoped. I hope to have it in the next week. One thing though, is I’d like to release a universal binary version but I have no way of testing it on an intel machine. If any of you Sudoku fans out there have there hands on one, let me know and I’ll send you the newest version for you to try out. Thanks!

Seems like the domain is working again now - at least for me.

Small fix in the generator which was occasionally putting duplicate numbers in rows and columns. Grab it while it’s hot!

Version 1.2 addresses the problems experienced with version 1.1. Namely, the multiple solutions problem has been solved and the lower left corner is now clickable. Download it here. Let me know if you have any comments, questions, bugs, whatever. Thanks and enjoy!

So there have been some issues with the puzzle generator in 1.1 creating puzzles that have multiple solutions…Anyway for now I have replaced 1.1’s generator with 1.0’s generator to fix that problem temporarily. I’m on vacation this weekend so I have limited computer access to fix the issue. Sorry folks. I’ll fix it as soon as I get back. Thanks for all the comments and helpful suggestions.
