Posted on Thursday 10 November 2005

Sorry folks about the domain name problems. I have renewed it today, but until it propogates please download the widget from here:

http://216.55.190.4/sudoku/sudoku_latest.zip

Also, I plan on getting some updates to the widget in the next week or so…I’ve been completely swamped at work :(

Happy Sudoku-ing!

Brian

[UPDATE 11/10/05 - 10:42am PST]
Seems like the domain is working again now - at least for me.

Dude, thanks a lot for this awesome widget! You’re ruining my life, but improving my time in the classroom, hehe.

I love the Sudoku widget. Thanks! May I suggest you add a function that includes a list of the 10 best names & scores at each level. Also, I think it would be awesome if you somehow adjusted the scoring so that points were deducted (or a set amount of time added to the total) for each error you made. Also, it would be good to adjust the scoring so that players get a lower score if they use the pencil marks. Perhaps this kind of functionality is too complex for a widget. Thanks again!

I disagree about the pencil marks comment and would find another soduku program if that functionality wasn’t in this one.

Any way you can add a print feature? Would love to print the puzzles out and take them to places where a laptop would be too conspicuous. Thanks!

I’m french my english is not so good.
I do appreciate a lot yr job.
Trying diablo, I would appreciate to be able to fix an 100% pre-solution I have founded and continue sometimes with a try… As for doing such changing the color of the numbers so that to recognize the tried numbers and erase it if needed

Hi, I did a little revamp of the widget’s interface and could send it to you if want. You could be free to use it if you like while giving me credit on the back. Email me for more info.

After you lock a blank puzzle, the software is unable to determine which answers are right and wrong. It highlights every answer you put in as wrong. Just thought you should know.

Great widget! Of course, now I’m wasting even more time on the Mac… One suggestion (not a bug) - what about making the right-click a pencil mark and the left-click the regular number (for those of us with a two-button mouse)? Just a thought. Thanks for tha hard work!

Sometimes the widget will produce a puzzle that does not have one unique answer. This is bad. Is anyone else seeing this?

To the previous poster - some sodukus do have more than one solution. Not a thing wrong with that.

BDB: How about the ability to switch (at will) between auto pencil marks and editing them (switching from auto to edit would leave all the current marks, then you could do some manual removals of pencil marks [as the program only does the obvious ones, not things like X-wing or Forced chains]. Switching back to auto mode from editing would then leave those marks alone and continue with automatically deleting them when new numbers are entered).

Or just simply allow manually editing the pencil marks at all times.

    And how about a stand-alone version? :^)

    Your soduko widget is great.
If you are open to suggestions,
here are two. 1) My wife and I
both find the easy sodukos a bit
tough. Why not ease up on these,
since you still have many harder
categories. 2) I tend to write
notes above, below and at the
sides of rows and columns, indicating
what is needed. Perhaps you could
add border boxes for notes. These
would be optional, be in a different
column and would only admit pencil
    marks when clicked. Just some
thoughts. Thanks for a great widget.o

OOPs. I meant is day a different
    color, not different column.

    Hi,
This is a GREAT widget! But it would be nice to have a timer…

Please make a function or pull out corner so the puzzle can be larger on the screen. Please!

Sorry I wanted to make sure someone saw this.

    Love it!

I like your widget a lot, thank you very much. It could be slightly larger (the “pencil marks” are awfully small) but I like to be able to choose the level of the problem :-)

Sudoku rocks! Why don’t you throw some music in… maybe different music for each difficulty level - like the Dance of the Cows for easy level and techno a la Monty Python and the Holy Grail for the hardest level. Or you could use public domain stuff by Josquin de Pres or from the Musica Enquiriadis. Ode Hecaton anybody? And it needs more sex and violence. Try an animation that blows up the sudoku when you get it wrong, taking a few people with it, leaving another few bloodied and another few orphaned. Hey it works for Rockstar Games!

I should be in bed. It is almost three in the morning here. But I have been playing with your newly discovered widget. I thank you, and curse my lack of willpower. Just one more …
